    Combined use of glider, radar and altimetry data to study a coastal current in the western Mediterranean Sea

The Ibiza Channel, located in the Balearic Sea, is of particular importance since it controls the exchanges in the western Mediterranean Sea. In order to understand and describe the upper ocean dynamics, a multi-sensor/integrated approach was applied in the Ibiza Channel in the first days of August 2013 during the G-AltiKa mission. This approach combines: Sea-level anomaly (SLA) measurements from Saral-AltiKa track no. 16, which passed west of Ibiza island. 1-Hz and 40-Hz data were considered. Glider data obtained along the satellite track a few hours after its passage. The horizontal resolution ranges from 5 km offshore to about 1 km in the coastal area. HF radar hourly velocities on a 3 km-resolution grid that partially covers the study region (range up to 74 km offshore). Dynamic height (DH) was derived from the glider temperature and salinity profiles, while Absolute Dynamic Topography (ADT) was obtained by combining SLA and the new Mean Dynamic Topography (MDT) jointly produced by CLS and SOCIB. From DH and SLA, the cross-track velocities were derived using geostrophy relations. Different filters were applied on SLA data and different reference levels were tested for the DH computation. DH and ADT both displayed very weak variations, on the order of 2-3 cm, along the glider trajectory. The gliderand the altimetry-derived velocities exhibit the signal of a meander centered at 38.65◦N and a narrow coastal current flowing northward a few kilometers off Ibiza. These computed velocities are on the order of 20 cm/s, as confirmed by the HF radar. The time separation between the passage of the satellite and the glider can explain the discrepancies observed between the two platforms. Our results highlight the promising measurements offered by SARAL/AltiKa in the coastal band. In particular, the satellite was able is able to capture the northern edge of the meander which lied on a shallow bathymetry, less than 10 km from the coast. They also constitute the first experiment where satellite altimetry and glider measurements were obtained almost simultaneously on the same track, in a region covered by a HF radar.     Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot vai pastāv negatīva saistība starp laulāto greizsirdību un uzskatiem par attiecību kvalitāti, kā arī vai atšķiras vīriešu un sieviešu saistība starp laulāto greizsirdību un uzskatiem par attiecību kvalitāti. Pētījumā piedalījās 60 laulāti indivīdi, vecumā no 21 – 70 gadiem. 30 no respondentiem bija sievietes un 30- vīrieši. Juridiski reģistrētā laulībā atradās 45 respondenti, bet 15 – juridiski nereģistrētā laulībā. Tika izmantotas trīs pētījuma metodes - aptauja par demogrāfiskajiem datiem , Multidimensionālās greizsirdības skala (Multidimensional jealousy scale, MJS, Pfeiffer, S.M.,& Wong, P.T.,1989), kas mērīja greizsirdības intensitāti un Diādes pielāgošanās skala (Dyadic Adjustment Scale, DAS, Spanier,G.B.,1979), kas mērīja attiecību kvalitāti. Apkopojot pētījumā iegūtos rezultātus , var secināt, ka pastāv nozīmīga negatīva saistība starp greizsirdību un laulāto uzskatiem par attiecību kvalitāti. Tas nozīmē, ka pētījumam izvirzītā hipotēze ir apstiprinājusies. Aplūkojot atšķirības vīriešu un sieviešu saistībā starp laulāto greizsirdību un uzskatiem par attiecību kvalitāti, var teikt, ka vīriešiem pastāv negatīva saistība starp šīm pazīmēm. Tā kā sievietēm kognitīvās greizsirdības izpausmes nozīmīgi negatīvi korelē ar visām attiecību kvalitātes vērtējuma apakšskalām, tad var teikt, ka arī sievietēm ir vērojama nozīmīga saistība starp greizsirdības izpausmēm un vērtējumu par attiecību kvalitāti, kaut arī kopējie greizsirdības intensitātes un attiecību kvalitātes vērtējumi neuzrādīja nozīmīgu korelāciju. Tātad atbildot uz pētījuma gaitā radušos jautājumu var secināt, ka atšķiras vīriešu un sieviešu saistība starp laulāto greizsirdību un uzskatiem par attiecību kvalitāti. Vīriešiem greizsirdība ir saistīta ar zemāku vērtējumu par attiecību kvalitāti.The aim of this study was to make out if exist negative connection with marital jealousy and married couple view about relationship quality, as also or differs men and woman connection between the married couple jealousy and view about relationship quality. In this study participated 60 married persons in age from 21 - 70. 30 from respondent there were women and 30- men. In legal registered marriage were 45 respondents, but 15 in legal no registered marriage. Three research methods were used - questioning for the demographic data, Multidimensional jealousy scale (MJS, Pfeiffer, S.M., & Wong, P.T., 1989), what measured jealousy intensity and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS, Spanier, G.B., 1979), what measured quality of relationships. Summarizing the results obtained in research, it can draw conclusion that exist important negative connection between jealousy and the marital view about relationship quality. This means that the research pulled out hypothesis is proved true. Examining differences men and woman between jealousy and the marital view about relationship quality, it can talk, that men exist a negative connection between this signs. As women cognitive jealousy significant negative correlate with all relationship quality scales, then it can tell, that also women have significant connection between jealousy and the marital view about relationship quality, although total results did not show significant correlation. So answering on research question it can draw conclusion, that connection of men and woman differs between the jealousy and the marital view about relationship quality. For men jealousy abandons more negative result on marital view about relationship quality

    Impact of lunar cycle on feeding dynamics of pelagic fishes in mangrove estuary of Trang province, Thailand

    Mangrovju meži aizņem 60-75% no kopējās pasaules tropu un subtropu piekrastes joslas teritorijas, un tiek uzskatīts par nozīmīgu biotopu priekš daudzu tropisko zivju barošanās un mazuļu attīstības (Cocheret de la Moriniere et al. 2004, Nybakken un Bertness 2005). Šajā pētījumā raksturota Taizemes, Sikao mangrovēs sastopamo zivju barošanās dinamika un atšķirības atkarībā no dažādiem biotiskajiem un abiotiskajiem faktoriem ar uzsvaru uz mēness izraisīto plūdmaiņu ietekmi. 2008. gada lietus sezonas sākuma no maija līdz jūnijam kopā ievāktas 14 438 pelaģiskās zivis no 47 sugām un 1 367 zivīm, ieskaitot bentiskās, veikta kuņģa satura analīze. Visas zivis tika sadalītas trīs grupās: mērķsuga Ambassis vachellii, visas pelaģiskās un visas bentiskās zivis, kuru kuņģu saturi tika salīdzināti ar zooplanktonu, kas ievākts vienā laikā ar zivju paraugiem mangrovju meža iekļautā sālsūdens kanālā. Vidējās kuņģa piepildījuma relatīvās vērtības visām zivju klasēm svārstījās no 5.7- 47.0 %. Konstatēta būtiska dažādu mēness fāžu plūdmaiņu ietekme uz A.vachellii un visu pelaģisko zivju grupu kuņģu piepildījumu. Šīm zivīm novērota aktīvāka barošanās maksimālajās plūdmaiņās, kad arī ūdenī sastopamas lielākas zooplanktona koncentrācijas. Tika konstatēta arī nozīmīga nakts un dienas ietekme uz A.vachellii barības izvēli, kur garneles šīs zivs diētā dominēja naktīs. Pētījuma novērojumi apliecina uzskatu, ka augstās plūdmaiņas mangrovju kanālos palielina barības pieejamību un daudzveidību, uz ko akatīvi reaģē mangrovēs sastopamās zivis. Atslēgvārdi: mangroves, zivju barošanās, plūdmaiņas, Taizeme.Mangroves dominate undisturbed shorelines of many tropical and sub-tropical regions and are considered to be important habitat as nursery and feeding habitat for many tropical fishes (Cocheret de la Moriniere et al. 2004, Faunce and Serafy 2006). Feeding habits and dynamics of fishes in the mangrove estuary of Trang province, Thailand, were examined during rainy season in May and June in 2008. Together 14 438 pelagic fishes were sampled and 1 367 stomachs contents, including benthic, were identified. Three separate groups of fishes were analyzed: target species Ambassis vachellii, all pelagic and all benthic fishes. Stomachs contents were compared to zooplankton collected at the same time in a tidal creek. Average stomach fullness values in all classes of fishes ranged from 5.7- 47.0 %. Different lunar phases had significant impact on stomach fullness values for A.vachellii and all pelagic fishes. These fishes fed more actively during spring tides, when prey items were more abundant in the water column. For A.vachellii distinct dial rhythms in prey selection were also observed, where shrimp dominated the diet during the nights. Observations from this study agree with a view that high tides increase food availability in mangrove systems causing active response of fishes. Key words: mangroves, fish feeding, tide, Thailand

    Towards Operational Fiducial Reference Measurement (FRM) Data for the Calibration and Validation of the Sentinel-3 Surface Topography Mission over Inland Waters, Sea Ice, and Land Ice

    International audienceThe Copernicus Sentinel-3 Surface Topography Mission (STM) Land Altimetry provides valuable surface elevation information over inland waters, sea ice, and land ice, thanks to its synthetic aperture radar (SAR) altimeter and its orbit that covers high-latitude polar regions. To ensure that these measurements are reliable and to maximise the return on investment, adequate validation of the geophysical retrieval methods, processing algorithms, and corrections must be performed using independent observations. The EU-ESA project St3TART (started July 2021) aims to generalise the concept of Fiducial Reference Measurements (FRMs) for the Copernicus Sentinel-3 STM. This work has gathered existing data, made new observations during field campaigns, and ensured that these observations meet the criteria of FRM standards so that they can be used to validate Sentinel-3 STM Land Altimetry products operationally. A roadmap for the operational provision of the FRM, including the definition, consolidation, and identification of the most relevant and cost-effective methods and protocols to be maintained, supported, or implemented, has been developed. The roadmap includes guidelines for SI traceability, definitions of FRM measurement procedures, processing methods, and uncertainty budget estimations
